Research Group for Urban and Environmental Sociology

Introduction

The Urban and Environmental Sociological Research Department is profiled in basic and applied researches. The urban sociology section investigates the socio-spatial processes of urban space, the factors of socio-spatial restructuring as the impact of globalization, the social disparities and conflicts of urban spaces, the major socio-economic factors of the competitiveness of cities by a comparative analysis of Hungarian and European trends. The environmental sociology section investigates the environmental conflicts having been evolved as the aftermath of damages in natural environment, the natural environmental interests of social status groups, the socio-spatial impacts of global climate change and the social conditions of adaptation. The networked cooperation, the (domestic and international) research cooperation, the encouragement of young researchers for active participation, the promotion of their scientific career, the publication of new research results in valuable scientific journals and monographs, communication through domestic and international education systems are all important parts of the Deparment’s philosophy and everyday practice.
